The day the Easter holidays started we received two fabulous children’s books from O’Brien Press to review.
The first, “Let’s See Ireland” by Sarah Bowie is a simple story of a little girl’s holiday around Ireland with her parents, and her cat who has secretly stowed away. The journey takes Molly and her family from Dublin, to Wicklow,Wexford, Tipperary, Cork, Kerry to not even name them all visiting famous landmarks.
The book is hardback and lovely quality, and the charming illustrations make it very special.
My two-year-old really enjoyed the story, finding the cat on each page and seeing the zoo and Hook Lighthouse which is near Granny’s.
My five-year-old insisted that he wants to see the mummy of the cat in Christchurch and liked counting how many of the places that Molly visits that he has been to (seven) and demanding to see the rest, especially the ones with treats and tracing where Molly went on the map of Ireland.
My seven-year-old claimed that he wasn’t interested yet was found checking out the pictures and commented on a number of the sites and facts. All of the sites are explained in the back of the book so that parents have some extra info or older children can read it themselves.
If you’re planning a holiday in Ireland this year or want to teach your child about Ireland this is a lovely book and it would also make an ideal gift to send to friends or family abroad.

The second book that we received was The Wild Atlantic Way Activity Book. The book, by
Alan Nolan and Natasha Mac A’Bháird has activities suitable for all ages, including colouring, join-the-dots, where’s Larry the Leprechaun (on Ben Bulben) and wordsearches. The book is really engaging and my kids fought over it. Luckily they were happy enough to agree who could do different pages. There are lots of interest facts too which drew my seven-year-old in.
The kids were aware of the Wild Atlantic Way as we’ve holidayed in Clifden, we had a family wedding in Donegal last year and Granny lives a mile off it in Sligo so they got to recognise the distinctive logo on signs. My five-year-old thought that we should have it in Wexford too.
The RRP for the Wild Atlantic Way Activity Book is €7.99 and it’s perfect to pass some time on your summer holidays in the car or on your travels. Again, it would be a great souvenir of a holiday on the Wild Atlantic Way to bring home. I’d recommend for ages 5 up, but almost-three-year-old would protest that she is big enough too 🙂
