Seven things to do in Wexford with kids

If you’re lucky enough to be holidaying in Wexford this year you might like this little list I’ve put together of some of our favourite things to do around Wexford town. Enjoy, and if you’ve any questions just comment below, or better still tell me all the good stuff that I’ve left out! (After I wrote the title and graphic I remembered how much we love to just hang out in Wexford town, walking along the quay checking out the boats, and we’ve had good fun in the playground beside the swimming pool too)

Here’s the list for your holidays :

1. The National Heritage Park
We’ve had lots of days out at the National Heritage Park at Ferrycarrig just outside Wexford town.
It’s a big hit with our small boys, they’re given a map at the start with clues to mark off, they get to explore the prehistoric buildings, the ring fort and crannog, pan for gold, play in the playground and run around the Viking longboat. The café is very good and does lovely soup and a great Sunday lunch deal.

2. The Beach

Wexford has some great beaches- Rosslare and Curracloe are both very popular, but there are lots of smaller beaches too. And even if the sun isn’t shining you can always write up a “Beach Scavenger Hunt” list and go wandering

3. Blackwater Open Farm
Another lovely open farm near Blackwater village.  It’s s couple of years since we’ve been but the boys keep commenting on the sign as we drive past so we’re overdue a return visit.

4. Johnstown Castle
There’s a castle, kids love castles. And a lake, a shop that sells ice cream, and room to roam. And fountains to try to fall in. The boys love to run around here and it’s a nice walk in beautiful gardens. The Irish Agricultural Museum is also on site, but we’ve never visited it so I can’t give you the lowdown.

5. Walk and ramble at Ravenwood
A forest walk is enjoyed by all our family, give the boys some sticks to hold and they ramble freely. They love running in the dunes in Ravenwood beside Curracloe beach and were thrilled to discover a rope swing the last time that we were there.

6. Visit North Wexford

7. Visit some villages
Kilmore Quay is pretty, but my heart is in Duncannon where I grew up. Both villages have fishing boats, playgrounds and ice cream cones and are perfect places to watch the world go by on a summer Sunday.
